Akita Lacquer Chopsticks

Lacquer is a traditional craft representing Japan. Overseas, it is called Japan.
Akita-nuri is lacquerware that was born in Akita about 100 years ago.
In this workshop, we will use chopsticks that have been coated with layers of lacquer and polish with sandpaper to create your own pattern.
※In this course there is use of lacquer

Kumiko Wood Work

Kumiko woodwork is an assembly of wood into geometric patterns without the use of any nails. It is also used in Japans oldest wooden structure (built in 607 7th century), Horyuji Temple (located in Nara prefecture).
In this workshop we will challenge building a pattern with Akita Cedar wood parts like a puzzle.
≪Noshiro City in Akita Prefecture is popular for producing wooden products. Among them, Daiei Mokko(Woodworks) Co. has delivered woodworks to the famous Ise Jingu Shrine (Mie prefecture) and the Japan National Stadium which was used for the Olympics2020.≫
Challenge making geometric patterns with Akita cedar wood parts.

Kawatsura Kokeshi Painting

Kokeshi dolls are wooden doll toys that have been made in the northeast region for about 200 years. Among them, Kawatsura Kokeshi has been made in a snowy mountain village in Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture.
In this workshop, you will draw your one and only face of the kokeshi doll.

Soran Bushi Dancing

Soran Bushi is one of the most famous folk songs in Japan, and is a sea shanty that was sung during herring fishing.
In this workshop, enjoy dancing Soran Bushi with actors.

Akita Daikokumai Dancing

Akita Daikokumai is performed by performers dressed as Daikokuten (the god who brings wealth).This is a folk song from Akita Prefecture that is sung and danced in front of houses. Often sung in the New Years and other auspicious occasions.
In this workshop, dress as Daikokuten and dance & sing Akita’s folk song with actors.

Tea Ceremony with Akita Maikos
C-1
This course will be held at “Matsushita” in Senshu Park.
Maiko is an apprentice Geisha, who performs Japanese dance and other arts at banquets.Akita Maiko are famous as “Akita beauties you can meet”.
In this course, Akita Maiko will hold a hospitality tea ceremony. Enjoy tea, seasonal Japanese dance and take photos with Akita maikos.
